Sony has chosen to XP Vaio P

As announced at CES 2009 in Las Vegas has arrived in our market the Sony Vaio P. A very small tablet with a display diagonal of only 8 inches and a resolution of 1600 x 768 pixels. The size of only 24 × 12 cm, gave home Sony can only enter a TrackPoint and even a TouchPad. The aesthetic is notable both for its size and for the elegant TFT that matches well with the keyboard and webcam integrated 0.3 MPXl.
But analyze them technically: we are talking about a Intel Atom Z530 (1.60 GHz and 533 MHz frontside bus) and an integrated video solution Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 500. Memory RAM 2 GB DDR and there is a choice of mass storage to give different options to choose price. There is talk of a hard disk 60-GB 1.8-inch or alternatively in a 128 GB Solid State. For Connectivity it comes to Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n. Some versions are equipped with the 3G module. Interesting use of XrossMediaBar (Formerly known on the PSP and Bravia TV series) that allows Internet access without having to boot the operating system.
An interesting choice confirmed only recently was the chosen home of Sony equip the netbook / laptop with Windows XP Home Edition, the operating system become more widespread in this area. I costs? Sony remains a niche audience, starting from 999 € to 1499 €.

Windows 7 comes out Relase Candidate

The new operating system from Microsoft is coming and has finally reached the last step before the official release: the launch of Relase Candidate . This is the latest test version of a term already received feedback from users.
Consequentially we are talking about 7100 built which should directly follow the official version. Now the product is becoming more stable and secure, the long experience made with XP, but mainly due to Windows Vista discpiaceri were for the children of Bill Gates, the turning point to create something more.
Although the graphics are heavier because it draws heavily Vista, the engine seems to be stable as that of Windows XP. The benchmark tests provided by the major software users (technical papers in the first place), reported that with the same basic configuration, Windows 7 Relase Candidate is much faster than Windows Vista , especially because the system uses only the primary operations and services secondary are often not used in our PC.
This was however a "tripping" for Microsoft home, because according to official data sheet, intended as a minimum configuration of the two operating systems is the same. But let's put in comparison.
Minimum Requirements Windows 7 Relase Candidate:

CPU 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64)

1 GB RAM (32-bit) / 2 GB RAM (64-bit)

Minimum 16 GB Hard Disk (32-bit) / 20 GB (64-bit) of available space

Support DirectX 9 graphics card with WDDM driver under 1.0
Minimum Requirements Windows Vista Ultimate:

CPU 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64)

1 GB of RAM

Hard Disk 40 GB to 15 GB of available space

Support for DirectX 9 graphics card with WDDM driver, 128 MB of graphics memory
The new system from Microsoft, has certainly tried to be "operational" even on systems with low requirements for a secure future integration with the netbook.

Windows and Linux on a par in the market for Netbook?

According to reports in mid-May, Linpus Technologies, Which based on the Acer Aspire One Linux, said his optimism about the increasingly popular operating system of the penguin on netbooks. The news from that part of the General Manager, Stephen Lim, comes as an assurance of the Director General of the possibility (later this year) to see at least 50% of the installed netbook to live with Linux.
This is because there is always a strong desire to take that slice of cake now Microsoft seems to have monopolized for a long time. Statements of Lim were clear: "More and more chip manufacturers, such as Qualcomm and Texas instuments, are pushing for the adoption of Linux. On the market there are more and more branded netbook Acer, Asus and Dell with Linux pre-installed and this is a milestone for us. "
To be able to capture this market, the Linpus is trying to work harder on interfaces such as user-friendly who want to meet those who need simplicity in everyday use ... with the netbook penguin.
Obviously, the current statistics are not exactly corresponding to the words of Lim, demonstrating the dominance of Windows to 75%. But Victor Horng, general manager of OSS Integral Institute Co. states that: "Windows is used not because it is a better platform than GNU / Linux, but only because people are more familiar with it." The increase in Linux market will surely be linked to a growth of 102% of sales of netbooks scheduled for later this year. We'll see ...

HP Android, low cost netbooks incoming

For several months HP is considering to market netbooks running Google Android. The 'Google OS would be to replace the standard Windows devices utlraportatili. The main advantage is in lowering the cost of these devices: it works with Android ARM processors, a family of CPU that have lower performance than Intel's Atom, but also lower prices and lower power consumption, this also means greater autonomy for the batteries.
However it will not be easy to convince consumers to abandon Microsoft systems, now that Windows is an established standard in the computing world. The biggest drawback is that with Android, most applications do not work. In addition, the operating system is not able to take full advantage of Intel processors, this means that you will ensure a range of low-cost netbooks, but this will be very limited in performance. That's why HP engineers are evaluating the potential of this operating system, and spokesmen have not yet decided on this. However it is thought that the price of these netbooks should be below 200 €. To affect the price, even the absence of the cost of Microsoft licensing.
While there are some basic applications provided by Google that approach those of the Office, the real strength of Android is the fact that a version of Linux, and as such, to be open source: that of providing users the ability to access the code and make changes. This possibility makes easier the work of designers in adapting the OS is the architecture of the devices, which does not happen with Microsoft products. Given all these considerations, it is easy to think that the challenge for Microsoft will be increasingly tight, and the company's monopoly on operating systems will be seriously questioned.

Asus Eee PC Lamborghini VX6, netbook refined style or something else?

Almost every day it happens, dear readers, to introduce computers, mostly laptops. But the PC which we are writing today has something special, after all, you can tell from the name already. Asus is close to launching a new netbook next month, the Asus Eee PC Lamborghini VX6.
Refined and elegant design and massive body, but most hardware that does very little netbook and notebook, despite the twelve-inch monitor: D525 Intel Atom dual-core processor, NVIDIA graphics ION-Next Generation, 4GB RAM and 320 GB of well- Hard Disk, the computer has nothing to envy to the biggest classical and cousins.
Developed following the creative style of the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 Roadster, the computer has a monitor with Full HD resolution and LED backlight, and has a new and very useful HDMI output for easy and quick connection to TV and projectors.
Also large potential of connectivity. Bluetooth is version 3.0 as well as USB ports, and if the Wi-Fi is a classic fitted to all the latest computer, other is the audio technology Bang & Olufsen ICEpower with high treble and bass very deep already post in other pc from Asus.
In short, a netbook prestantissimo but in the end leaves us with a question pending. We are confident that netbook, in this case, it means yet to use computers mainly for surfing the net? And, again, its similarity with the Eee PC hardware 1215n despite, however, to € 100 difference between the two models, does not make it too expensive for the design?
The retail price for the Eee PC Lamborghini VX6 - accompanied by a number of accessories - will be 599 € including VAT, a bit 'too much for a netbook and a little' food for thought for a provocation all the more true is it worth paying so much for a line change in style for a trendy brand more? To give you the answer you want.

Telecom Italy and Railways announced: December Internet also trains

There's good news for reducing the digital divide in Italy compared to other European nations. Comes to us an all-new, never seen before in our country: here comes the Internet in modern Frecciarossa of Railways.
The announcement, the same AD FS and Telecom Italy, Mauro Moretti (which also designed the train) and Franco Bernabe, at the end of the first phase of a project that started since last February that for now involve as many as 60 trains on the railways of our ultrafast Turin-Milan-Rome-Naples.
To carry out the work, all the trains involved were equipped with Wi-Fi repeaters and equipped with an appropriate and efficient server farm, and more, announces Railways, even the tunnels have been modified by the addition of well- 74 new node along the tunnels, to ensure good reception even to those who will use USB sticks instead of the smartphone and wireless available.
The official launch of the project materializes in less than a month, Sunday, December 12, and up to the year-end connection is free of charge and available to all registered users with a credit card. Rates to be applied, however, by 2011, even though they were not - for company decisions - even released.
Innovation and improved infrastructure, then, for a total expenditure of around EUR 100 million, divided between the two companies involved. But above all, modernity and new possibilities for users and for the same telephone service, for Italy that, despite everything, seems to be at least partially aware of new developments of his time.

Which portable computer is right for you

There is a brief guide to buying a laptop. We can divide the notebook into two major categories. Notebooks and Laptops to work for the home. Today the so-called Laptops for the business are sold at affordable prices, which until qulche years ago did not happen. The prices have had a significant decrease, so now you can buy a good notebook to work spending around € 900.

Business Laptops . The needs of those who buy a laptop for work are usually higher than those who use the notebook for the home or perhaps just to study. In general, the performance should be superior, with better screen, because the amount of hours spent at the computer is high, with a good video card, hard drive more 'roomy, most processors' performance and, especially with the new operating system Windows Vista, we recommend at least 2GB of RAM, Wi-Fi connectivity. All factors affecting the price. However, before buying a notebook and evaluate the good that we will make specific use, to avoid unnecessary waste of money.
Laptops for home . Who buys a laptop for home needs a PC with a good multimedia: a chance to see the film, perhaps by connecting the notebook to a LCD TV, listening to music, play. Here too we need to evaluate thoroughly before buying a notebook, the specific use in when we're going to make such a good graphics card for games of last generation has a significant impact on the price or the most 'demanding want to choose a laptop equipped Blu-Ray technology.
Some questions to the best of the Handset. If we buy a notebook, to avoid unnecessary waste of money, we estimate that we will use it and we always ask:

When you weigh?

Battery Life?

What wireless links?

Processor that has (not recommend-performing processors, specic with the new Windows Vista operating systems)?

How much RAM memory your laptop (with Windows Vista we recommend at least 2GB)?

How many have your notebook's USB port (we recommend at least 3 USB 2.0)?

What operating system uses the laptop (Vista with the Aero interface suggest)?

The handset has other software (better a PC that already has a good supply of programs)?

How much has the notebook warranty (two years of the European Union is borne by the producer)?

If purchasing online is who will bear the withdrawal and return in the event of warranty service?

It can buy an extended warranty, at what price?

Secure online buying guide

Continue the rise of online shopping, internet you can 'definitely save compared to the high street, but be careful not to get burned an unwelcome primed a scam. In fact, as in real life the bad guys are on the internet. But following a few simple rules do not take risks, even to buy online is even more 'secure and more' convenient, not only in terms of price but also with respect to greater rights to protect consumers. We then made a mini guide to buying safely on the Internet ...

Nokia N97: between criticism and praise

The Nokia N97 smartphone is the new flagship of the Finnish. Presented ufficialemnte few weeks ago, has now given rise around him much attention from industry experts and enthusiasts mobile.

Despite this, have already been moved all'N97 the first criticism. Heavier than about the processor that runs the operating system of your smartphone. It seems that this fact is the Texas Instruments ARM11 processor: a processor certainly well executed, which is already equipped with the Nokia N95, albeit with a higher clock frequency.
Many people expected a better processor, better performance, maybe he had planned to use the new chip TI OMAP 3 is synonymous with excellent performance and very low power consumption, equal to zero in standby mode.
Indeed, the motivation that led to this criticism may be right, because the Nokia N97 was introduced a few days ago, as a revolution in the mobile sector. Although the processor, the Nokia N97 smartphone is still faster than having a system opeartivo Simbyan S60, but still slower than the computer industry MID.
With the new N97 smartphone will be also released the beta of Nokia Maps 3.0 software, much appreciated by users for the navigation of the Finnish, with improved graphics, pedestrian navigation, prominent buildings in 3D for more than 200 locations, aerial images to high resolution.
We'll see how in each case to continue the assessments of the operating system and the speed of the phone in the coming days.

Solid state hard drive, small and fast

Solid state hard drive or solid state drive (SSD) is a new technology for data storage hardware. Are taking place especially in the notebook market and the new generation of netbooks, given the characteristics of small size and high performance.
The differences with traditional hard drives are obvious, and no mechanical parts such as magnetic heads and disks, but use a NAND flash memory. To be clear are the same or very similar to those used for CompactFlash for digital cameras or USB Flash Drive (apart from the old pendrive that used a NOR flash technology now obloseta and poorly performing).
The main innovative features are a higher resistance to wear and tear (due to the absence of mechanical parts most sensitive), which guarantees high stability and security in data storage.
Besides this, most important, the write speed and read greatly improved, the access time to data appears to be up to fifty times smaller than the traditional magnetic disks. Heat production is very limited, no noise, and very small, a framework of close interest to this new type of technology.
Some drawbacks, for many non-minor, however, are present.
First of all the costs are still very high, and another non-negligible, the market currently does not provide solid-state hard drive for large capacity, Forget for the moment to overcome the 32-64 Gb, a feature that is not always appreciated by those who suffers from not having at least 250Gb.
Another little problem is longevity, because the ability to rewrite a single row of bits is not very high, defect, together with the cost a little more 'high, will disappear in time thanks to an innovative technique that exploits the use of nanotubes in carbon.
Ultimately this technology seems very interesting and some are already taking place, we'll see if one day supplant the old storage devices completely or follow a path parallel and alternative.
